What This World Needs

My heart hurts. It legitimately feels like it has been ripped out of my chest and was stomped on repeatedly.

I am DONE opening twitter to see lists of more victims killed due to gun violence.

I am DONE watching the number of mass shootings continuously rise.

I am DONE turning on the news to see a new family grieving the loss of their child. Their BABY. Innocent, and gone.

I am sick to my stomach and I am done.

As most of you know, the Parkland shooting took place on Wednesday, February 14th, 2018 and claimed the lives of 17 teachers and students.

The most deadly school shooting since Sandy Hook.

How many more people have to die? How many more students, teachers, sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, friends, husbands, and wives have to have their lives ripped away from them before something is done? And don't get me wrong, we should be mourning these people- not debating over gun control. And honestly, am I even sure that gun control could fix this? No, I am not entirely sure. After all, drugs are illegal. Alcohol before the age of 21 is illegal. Child pornography is illegal. Sex trafficking is illegal. Unfortunately though, making something illegal won't necessarily put an end to it.

Whether or not gun control could eradicate the staggering amount of gun violence is questionable. I believe it could be worth a try, but it just doesn't change the fact that some people are evil. Plain and simple.

I think that putting more regulations on guns could make it harder for those evil people to get guns. But not impossible. A person with that kind of intent to hurt innocent people will find a way to do so by any means possible.

I am in no way saying we should sit back and watch the amount of people dying from gun violence increase as the years go by.

What I am saying is that keeping a disgusting, evil, narcissistic person dead-set on making others suffer from doing so is nearly impossible. If a psychopath wants to kill, he will probably find a way to kill. We need to keep these people from turning into monsters to begin with.

Is there a sure fire way to prevent school shootings or other tragic events? God, no. I'm not going to sit here and pretend like just being nice to someone can prevent them from doing unspeakable things. But it couldn't hurt, right?

Early childhood abuse and neglect have a direct correlation with later violent delinquency. I have done extensive research on serial killers and mass murderers and so many of these people had disturbing and traumatizing pasts/childhoods. Many bullies were once the kid being bullied.

36% of serial killers suffered physical abuse, 26% sexual abuse, 50% psychological abuse, 18% neglect, and 32% reported no abuse at all. Now with that being said, there are still plenty of murderers who had pleasant childhoods- so there's obviously no way to know what exactly causes this kind of violent behavior in people like this. (Sometimes mental disorders and other neurological imbalances can be to blame).

However, one thing is for sure: your words have an effect on people. HALF of all serial killers experienced psychological abuse. HALF.

Maybe, just maybe, if some of these evil people would have experienced love, received kindness, and got the mental help they needed... Maybe things would be different.

What I am getting at is PLEASE treat people with respect. You NEVER know what someone is going through and how much your words/actions can effect them. I am not justifying or making excuses for anyone who has ever harmed another innocent person.

I just don't think people are born monsters, but that they are molded into them.

If you see someone being abused or neglected- REPORT IT.

If you see someone making threats or acting suspiciously- REPORT IT.

If you see someone being bullied or picked on- REPORT IT.

If you see someone sitting alone or you notice someone having a bad day... be kind. Show them someone cares. You never know, that could be the only bit of kindness they receive.

This world is dark, but a little kindness might be able to bring back some light.
